In Good Company

A US man has bought an original Picasso print for just $13.50 at an Ohio op-shop. Zach Bodish spotted the framed poster advertising a 1958 exhibition of Picasso's work hiding behind some other artworks at the Volunteers of America store, local newspaper the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Thinking it was just a nice reproduction, he bought it and took it home, where he discovered a faint signature by the Spanish artist.

"I started shaking a little bit," Mr Bodish told the newspaper.

"I realised it wasn’t going to make me rich, but still, how often do you find a Picasso?"

In addition to the signature the poster was numbered 6/100 and had "original print, signed proof" written on it in French.

Experts have estimated the poster could be worth up to $11,500.

Recently my mum received an email from a chef in Melbourne asking if this painting was one of hers. Painted in 1969, this Kangaroo Point landscape was purchased from a Chapel St opshop. It seems she is in good company.

Gifted and Thrifted

Gifted: Beautiful 1950s lace dress from Julie, a few alterations and it will be the perfect wiggle dress. I will treasure this dress as I treasure our friendship. We spent the afternoon yesterday playing dress ups with the Dear Pearl Wardrobe in anticipation of a very special "do" in April.
Thrifted: My fave opshop find of the week, 1970's Royal Doulton "Hill Top" Trio, tucked away in a corner at Salvos, waiting to come home with me. Visiting Sophie, for more vintage lovely x

Today At My Place

Today at my place I have been playing with the pretty stuff. My main dress rack is up and running again after I returned home one day last week to discover it had buckled under the weight of dresses. They spent a week piled high on the bed aka princess and the pea. A new tapestry bought from Salvos and sold to me by the very lady who created it, thanks Val. Dreaming of Lemon Chiffon Pie the way my grandma used to make, ssshhh don't tell Rock Chic she has me on the no sugar diet atm and she's a little bit bossy x

Teacup Ballet

I've been playing in the studio this week photographing some new goodies for the shop. A range of "fortunes in a teacup". When I was little my grandmother would read my tea leaves, there was magic in that cup, and so in these, vintage teacups filled with sweet vintage haberdashery and ephemera.

I love this photo "Teacup Ballet" by Olive Cotton, one of my all time favourite photographers taken in 1935. The photo evolved after she purchased some inexpensive cups and saucers from Woolworths to replace the chipped mugs no longer suitable for visitors. The angular handles reminded her of ballet dancers and this led to the idea of creating a photo to express a dance theme.

Fashion shot, Cronulla sandhills 1937. Olive would accompany her then husband, Max Dupain on photo shoots, her role being to assist with the model's makeup and change of costume, she took this photo as Max was photographing an evening dress for his client, David Jones.

Another favourite, "Girl With A Mirror" taken by Olive (whose portrait by Max is pictured to the right) in 1938 of a model waiting to be photographed by him.

The Honeymoon Frock

This week has been a bit of a drought in the opshopping department, seems I spoke a little too soon. Never mind thought it would be fun to share my favourite frock find in quite some time thrifted on our honeymoon late last year (that Renoboy is definately a keeper). It has now become a "communal frock" in our family of girls with lots of oohing and aahing over this little number! It reminds us of Marilyn. Smitten Kitten x
